Does mummy like sticky things?

Be afraid, be very afraid when your child asks this!!  Daddy and I were cleaning up supper, and R was in the dining room.  She calls out “Daddy, does mummy like sticky things?”  We exchange a worried glance and Daddy replies “no, in general mummy doesn’t like sticky things…”  I nervously asked “what are you doing R?”  R replies “Oh, never mind”…I’m worried I still may find something..

Yup, that’s my child…

Well I should have posted this yesterday, but I just didn’t get to it.  The picture above was taken well before this incident!

R came home from her ususal morning with Oma and Opa.  She had a strange expression on her face as she walked in.  (ok normally she has a slightly strange expression, a mix of ‘I had a really good time – but I still am slightly mad at your for dropping me off, so I’ll be just a little bit happy and a little bit mad expression)…This expression was different.  Then she says to me quite calmly “I have a carrot up my nose”.  I look up at Oma and she says what did she say?  I tell Oma that R said she had a carrot up her nose, and then R must have seen the disbelief on my face as I said “a carrot wouldn’t fit up your nose honey”.  She promtly burst into hysterical tears for about 30 seconds, then calmed down and gave Oma & Opa a kiss and said goodbye.   After they leave, I take her to the couch and try to see this ‘carrot’.  I can’t see anything, but again she starts crying and insists there is one…  I get a kleenex and get her to blow.  Nothing comes out….She’s crying, and I’m not sure what to do!  Thank goodness at that moment I heard the garage door go up, Daddy was home.

I take my crying daughter to the door, and we greet daddy.  He takes R to the couch and tells me he does see something, Waaaayyyy up in there!  He searches for tweezers as I try to calm R down.  He returns, and she sees the tweezers and starts hysterically crying!  We argue a bit that they are really too big, and then I decided to get up and call the Walk in clinic and ask if they can deal with this, or weather we should go to emerg….

Before I can call, Albert yells over, I got it.  I come over, and yes, it is a LARGE piece of carrot.. I should have taken a picture, but I didn’t! (you can thank me later!).  Turns out Daddy is a genious at solving these types of problems…no tweezers used, and if you want the gorey details of how he did it, please e-mail him! albert@rim.net  It’s really too gross to post in this public forum!

So this is the 3rd thing that has become stuck (or close to stuck) in R’s orafaces… Chickpeas in the ears (Auntie L’s favourite) Dried corn up the nose, and now a chunk of carrot up the nose…  yup you’d better keep your eyes on my kid!

Bath Time

Do you think this is ‘Art’?

So R’s preschool class went on a field trip today to a local art gallery.  My favourite picture of the day is above, R with her friend E, looking at some ‘Art’.  While waiting for our ‘class’ on colour to begin, R walked around the art gallery.  I was so nervous.  There was a whole room featuring clay pieces set on pedestals right at R’s height.  I was deathly afraid!  I’m glad to report no harm was done!

R’s party

We had a nice party today for R and her friends.  We had a great time with a bit of face painting, decorating hats, dancing around, playing hot potato, and trying to open a pinata.  Here’s the gallery

Our baby is 3 years old!

I can’t belive it, R is 3.  Wow.  Where did the time go?  We started the day reading new library books in bed, then R got to eat a cupcake for breakfast.  I had tied a large foil frog baloon to her chair and it’s a hit.   After breakfast she went to see Oma and Opa for the morning.  They had a great time (eating eggs) and going to the park…of course she was just a little spoiled by having some ice cream just before lunch!  It’s been a nice day.

Spring (ok, well the first good thaw)

Yup, the past few days have felt like spring.  We’ve been slowly able to chip the 2inch layer of ice off out driveway.  Still lots of snow to melt, and we’re expecting more by the weekend, but ahhh.. it was a nice reprieve (10 degrees).  R went outside in her new spring jacket.  For supper we went to R’s choice, The Heuther.  Her friend Koonar served us.  He has a special liking for her, and we’ve made a tradition of going there around her birthday every year.  She turns 3 tomorrow! Wow!

Blue Snow

Today R played outside at pre-school, and the teacher had spray bottles filled with coloured water for the kids to spray on the snow.  It was a huge hit.  So this afternoon I bravely decided to let R have a big spray bottle of blue water.  She did pretty well, but had some trouble managing to work the bottle with her mittens on.  I will have to figure out how to get the stains out of her mittens later…suggestions?

Wednesdays with Oma and Opa

R spends Wednesdays with Oma and Opa.  They start with breakfast, and move on to play time.   The winter pictures are from last week, but they are so priceless I needed to post them.   This week R decided she had an ouchie, and Oma obliged by giving her a band-aid.

Playdate

J came over this morning with her 2 kids, J&N.   The kids had a great time playing together, especially dress up.  Check out these pics!

R said

So on the way home from a quick stop at Home Depot, R says to me in the car “Mummy and daddy are not experts”.  I naturally ask, “we are not experts at what sweetie?”  She replies “Mummy and daddy are not experts at giving me everything I want”.  Well.  How do you reply to that?
